Supernatural Aid Reflection
March 22nd, 2009 by zrk08
The qualities I need for my hero journey are very important so I had to pick them carefully. I tried to choose qualities that I had that I knew would help, and I chose qualities that I hoped to develop that would certainly be beneficial to me. After reading through the list of medicines multiple times, I chose five different medicines: Humor, Patience, Perseverance, Selflessness, and Humility.
Humor is one of my best qualities because I love to laugh, and I enjoy making people laugh. Although humor is useful as mere entertainment, it can also help in times of need when all else fails. For me, many times the best way to get through a difficult situation is to “laugh it off.” I try to make some joke that will lighten my mood. After reading the clues a couple times, the words language and translate led me to believe that the medicine was in the language department. Of all the teachers in that department Mrs. Jackman is by far the funniest. I have never had her as a teacher, but I know her fairly well just by talking to her in the cafeteria, and she ALWAYS has a joke to make. Humor will surely help me get through difficult times on my journey.
A quality that I could use more of is patience, which was found in the admissions office. Patience is key for the hero journey because it allows one to wait for the best possible thing. Oftentimes in life I see something that appears to be good and jump to it right away, missing an even better opportunity that would have come if I had waited. This is evident in sports such as football as well. A rookie quarterback may throw the ball to the receiver who first shows a sign of being open. However, a veteran quarterback who is patient will wait and oftentimes is rewarded with a big play downfield. The people in the admissions office patiently help the new students who arrive at Brebeuf. Patience will help me on my journey by allowing me to wait for the best opportunity, and by helping me not get frustrated when things don’t work out right away.
Perseverance was very easy to find, especially after the second clue. Also, I know Mr. Brown very well after participating in various diversity activities. Perseverance is vital in reaching any goal because it allows for the journey to continue. Someone who does not persevere may give up after a setback, but a persevering person will try again to attain a goal. I am usually a persevering person, but I could always have more perseverance. In my opinion, there is never a “time to give up” for a goal that is worth attaining. Perseverance will help me through my journey no matter what happens.
Selflessness is an important trait for a hero to have. Helping others is often more crucial than helping yourself. A great example of selflessness is Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. She asked for nothing for herself, but for help for the people around her. By being selflessness I will place other people before me and realize that what I need is always not the most important thing. The clues led me straight to the science department, which eventually led me to Mrs. Schroeder. Selflessness will help me help others on my journey.
The learning center is the perfect place for humility because people address their weaknesses there. However, everyone (not just people in LC) needs to have humility. Although I am not cocky, I often put assignments off because I feel as though I can do things well even at the last minute. Even though this usually works, I need to get a bad grade here and there to make me realize that I’m not Einstein. People need to realize that someone can always help them improve. While selflessness will allow me to help others, humility will allow me to BE HELPED by others. This will help me get through my journey more efficiently.
With all of these qualities on my belt, my hero journey will be able to proceed. I know that I am capable of completing my journey if I can maintain these qualities.

NFL Free Agency and an Immature Funnny
March 8th, 2009 by zrk08
IF YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT FREE AGENCY JUST SKIP TO THE END AND WATCH THE VIDEO!
So NFL free agency has kicked off (when players can get traded). In this post I’ll mention a few big moves and then show you a funny video that is rather immature haha. Well, New England’s Matt Cassel has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs along with linebacker Mike Vrabel. It was suspected that Cassel would be dealt, but everyone thought the Patriots would get more in return. All they got was a second round pick, but it is the second pick in the second round so its almost a first rounder but not quite. The manager of the Chiefs is Scott Pioli, who was acquired this year from New England, and he has been considered one of the best business minds in football throughout his career. Analysts wondered if Pioli got the best of Bill Bilichick, the coach for his former team. However, other people are assuming the worst–that Belichick gave Cassel away to the Pioli so easily because of their friendship, and this has greatly angered the Patriots Nation. I can see the logic in that assumption, but do not think it is that big of a deal. There is no guarantee that Cassel will play will with the Chiefs, and letting him go frees up a lot of money for other players and New England’s roster. The loss of Vrabel further emphasizes their need of a new linebacker. New England acquired Fred Taylor (runningback from Jacksonville), and he will help the New England offense. Other big moves include Dallas cutting Terrell Owens and T.J. Houshmandzadeh going from the Bengals to the Seahawks. Everyone knew that Housh was bound to leave the Bengals, and Seattle was a good fit for him. However, the cutting of TO came as a big surprise to everyone. It is known that he often argues and causes off the field issues with his teammates, but he is still a star receiver. Dallas may hurt after releasing him. TO signed with Buffalo, giving them a number one receiver. There have been other moves in Free Agency, but these are some of the biggest. Now for the video:
Everyone makes fun of John Madden for his silly commentary, but the big man himself made a fool of himself on national television this time. Game commentators are able to “draw” on the field using a digital screen and pen, and Madden was doing so when he accidentally drew an interesting picture. Watch.
YUP. Thats a penis.

iPhone
February 22nd, 2009 by zrk08
So I got an iPhone last week and it is amazing! I knew it would be cool but I had no idea that it would be this great. I’m actually writing this post from my phone. haha. But it’s great because now I can use my phone, play games, and use the internet all in one device. It cut down my computer time because I can almost anything from the phone. I had been waiting to get it since SEPTEMBER because back then when Apple released their second generation iPod touch I sold my first gen. iPod touch. I sold it a couple days before they new ones came out and ripped some guy off on eBay who was unaware of the new product. So I waited like FIVE MONTHS. haha. anyways thats all I gotta say…this week was fairly uneventful for me. man that took a while to type on this phone!

BIRTHDAY YAY
February 8th, 2009 by zrk08
so today is my birthdaaaay! it was pretty fun. i just had some friends spend the night yesterday and we actually had a blast. two kids who came brought their xboxs and i had mine so we had three xboxs at my house. Then i took tv into the basement from upstairs, adding to the one that was already there. The third xbox was hooked up to the one in the family room and we all played against each other online it was sweet. Then we played some razzle dazzle (a mix between ultimate frizbee and football). We ended up going to bed around seven but still werent really that tired. I already got my big present a few weeks ago, a car! So overall it was a great birthday.

suuuuper bowl.
February 2nd, 2009 by zrk08
well, WHAT A GAME. haha. i wanted the cards to win because they hadn’t won one, and I didn’t want the steelers to have the most super bowls. Unfortuantely, pitt won. At first the game seemed to be all over when pittsburgh took the lead. Then Arizona had the momentum right before half time when they were about to score but james harrison picked it off and returned it for a touchdown. by the way did anyone see him punch the crap out of number 47 on the cards? i respected harrison after that touchdown but know i absolutely hate him. When the cards got that safety and larry fitzgerald (aka monster) scored w/ just a couple minutes left i was screaming, but i felt like they scored too quickly. and they did. santonio holmes, my favorite player on the steelers, had 73 yards and 4 catches on the final drive, which was virtually all of the yards on that drive AND he had the craziest catch to win. since he’s my favorite player on the team its almost okay, but not really. haha. well i wish the cardinals had one but i guess its too late. It was as exciting as last year if not more (at least this year I didn’t cry when it was over…haha). Well the Godaddy and career builder commercials were really funny. bruce springsteen? eh. w/e. congrats to holmes for the MVP. fitzgerald is amazing. i hate the steelers.

ugh…the SAT..
January 23rd, 2009 by zrk08
as i’m sit in english class i realize that at this time tomorrow i will be in my seat ready to take the SAT…that dumb test that everyone has to take to go to college. It’s kind of unfair that so much of our future relies on one test, but i guess it really is the only way to compare students across the country. hopefully i’ll do well enough to get it over with. i know a lot of other people are taking it tomorrow as well. one good thing is that they have that new score choice policy so colleges only see the scores you want to send them, therefore making me worry less about having a bad test day. haha well if i do i can just watch my music video =). haha. well good luck to all of you taking the test!

cards in the super bowl?!
January 19th, 2009 by zrk08
So, when you look at the time this was written you might ask yourself why the heck is Raghava up at that hour. Well (this has nothing to do with my post) I was literally in bed and couldn’t sleep, so i thought of what homework i had to do. Then i realized that we had to do blog stuff by the end of the weekend, but I wasn’t sure when the weekend ended because of the long weekend. haha. But i wanted to be safe so decided to do it now. Anyways, today the cardinals, THE CARDINALS, beat the eagles and advanced to their first super bowl ever. This team was 9-7 in the regular season so no one gave them credit. I am still not giving them credit, especially after the patriots beat them 47-7 or something like that and ended up 11-5 without a playoff spot. The Cards beat the panthers (my super bowl pick) and the eagles (my next super bowl pick) to advance to the championship game. They also beat the falcons but no one cares. haha. If the cardinal’s division wasn’t so bad they probably wouldn’t even be in the playoffs. However they have some cinderella story going. How will it end? we’ll have to see.
